On 23–24 May 2026, the “Writing about architecture” workshops — the first stage of the 12th edition of the THEORY competition — took place at the Stefan Kuryłowicz Foundation and the Kuryłowicz + Architekci studio. Twelve participants, selected by the jury from among all the submissions, were invited to take part.
The participants worked with the mentor arch. Ewa P. Porębska and the tutors arch. Zygmunt Borawski and arch. Igor Łysiuk; arch. Jan Rubel served as the tutors’ assistant. Lecturers and special guests also took part: arch. Monika Komorowska, Dr Renata Hryciuk, arch. Grzegorz Piątek and Robert Cwojdziński – a courier. Academic support was provided by Prof. arch. Ewa Kuryłowicz.
During the workshops we focused on inclusive architecture and raised the subject of workers’ rights. A special point of the programme was therefore a lecture by Robert Cwojdziński — a representative of the courier profession — who told the participants about the ins and outs of his work. The workshops were preceded by a guided tour of Saska Kępa — the district that became the context and starting point for the further stages of the competition.
The programme comprised two intensive days of meetings, discussion and conceptual work. The workshops were an important stage of the 12th edition of the THEORY competition, whose aim is to develop reflection on architecture and culture and to support young architects in critical and creative writing about space.
